Last updated: 2026-06-24

This is a spoiler-light roadmap to Gothic 1 Remake. The colony is open from the start, but the world is deadly early — your job in the first hours is to get strong enough to survive it. Use this page as the hub and branch into the detailed guides as you go.

New to the series? Read the beginner guide first, then come back here.

The first hour (do this first)

  1. Follow the path to the Old Camp and talk to Diego — he sets you up and points you at early work.
  2. Take simple, low-risk quests to bank experience and ore (the colony's currency).
  3. Spend your first learning points on one weapon skill — see the best build for the order.
  4. Decide which faction fits your build before chapter 1 ends — see which camp to join.

Chapter flow (no spoilers)

Each chapter transition changes the world — enemies respawn or move, and some NPCs relocate. Finish a chapter's side quests before you trigger its ending.

Survival rules that matter all game

  • Don't pick fights you can't win — Gothic expects you to run, kite, and pull single enemies.
  • Always carry healing (plants or potions) and a few scrolls for emergencies.
  • Money = ore nuggets. Learn how to farm ore and gold early.
  • Skills come from trainers, not menus — know where the trainers are.

FAQ

How many chapters are in Gothic 1 Remake?
Like the 2001 original, the story is structured in six chapters. Each chapter ends with a major story beat that pushes the world state forward, so finish chapter-specific quests before triggering the next one.
What should I do first in Gothic 1 Remake?
Reach the Old Camp, talk to Diego, then pick up easy early quests to earn learning points and ore. Train one weapon skill, raise its matching attribute, and only then explore dangerous areas.
Can I miss quests if I advance the story?
Yes. Several quests are chapter-gated and NPCs can move or die between chapters. Clear a chapter's side content before completing its main objective.
